What is a MD5 checksum
What is an MD5 checksum?
An MD5 checksum is a kind of fingerprint for a file. Imagine you want to make sure that a file you have downloaded is exactly the same as the one originally created. The MD5 checksum helps verify this by creating a unique string of letters and numbers that represents the file. If even a small detail in the file changes, the MD5 checksum changes completely. So it's like a digital fingerprint that helps you check the integrity of your file.
Here is an example of how to create an MD5 checksum with md5summer.exe under Windows:
1) start md5summer.exe:
2) Select the folder in which the audio data is located and then click on "Create sums".
3) Select all titles that have been sent to us and then click on "ADD".
4) Now simply click on "OK".
5) The program now calculates the MD5 totals for the individual tracks.
Depending on how large and fast the computer is, this can take approx. 1-5 minutes. After all MD5 sums have been generated, a "Save as" window should open automatically. There you will be asked where you want to save the .md5 file.
Simply select a location that you can find again or save automatically where the tracks are already located.
6) Now you just have to send us the .MD5 file, also by e-mail, as it is only a small file:
EXCEPTION: If the "Save as" window does not open automatically at point 5), you must click on the "Save" button, then continue as described in step 5):
